Start Here: Which Utility Heats Your Home?
Almost every rebate in B.C. depends on which utility supplies the energy your home actually uses. In Kitsilano, Fairview and Granville, that is normally BC Hydro for electricity and FortisBC for natural gas. Check your bill before you apply, because the two programs have different rules and different amounts.

Available Rebates
1. BC Hydro Home Renovation Rebates
This is the largest program for homes heated by electricity. You need a BC Hydro account and a home that is primarily heated by electricity with high space-heating bills.

2. FortisBC Rebates for Natural Gas Homes
If FortisBC supplies natural gas to your home, these are the rebates that apply to you.

Note for our service area: FortisBC’s window and door rebate is not available inside the City of Vancouver, so it is not listed above. Homes heated by electricity can still claim windows and doors through BC Hydro in section 1.
3. Instant Discounts, Applied at the Till
These need no application. The discount comes off at checkout at participating retailers.

Coming this fall: BC Hydro will give eligible customers with electric baseboard heating up to five free smart baseboard thermostats, plus a $50 seasonal reward for keeping them enrolled in the Peak Saver program. If you have baseboard heating it is worth waiting for this rather than buying thermostats now.
4. Rebates Based on Household Income
The CleanBC Energy Savings Program can cover up to 100% of eligible upgrade costs. What you receive depends on your household size, your combined household income, and the assessed value of your property.

Property value limit, updated April 1, 2026. If you register as Income Level 1 or 2 on or after April 1, 2026, your property must have a total assessed value at or under $1,200,000 on its BC Assessment listing. For Income Level 3 the limit is $1,820,000. Check this before planning an upgrade around the program.
Two related programs are free rather than rebated: the Energy Conservation Assistance Program gives eligible households a free home energy evaluation and free installation of approved upgrades, and the free energy saving kit is available once every five years.
Programs That Have Closed
Rebate programs end without much notice, and out-of-date rebate pages are common. Two that people still ask us about:
- The FortisBC dual fuel system rebate has been retired. The heat pump plus gas furnace combination rebate is no longer offered, and its replacement pilot has closed to new applicants.
- The Kelowna municipal top-up is fully subscribed and is not open to new applicants. It only ever applied in Kelowna.
How to get your Notice of Assessment?
To fetch your Notice of Assessment (NOA),
- Go to My Account of CRA to retrieve your Notice of Assessment (NOA).
- If you cannot find NOA online, please dial CRA at 1 800 959 8281, Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM, to request your NOA.
- If you have the most recent NOA, it must be submitted with the application.

General Eligibility and How to Apply
Most of the programs above share the same basic requirements.

- Confirm which utility heats your home, then confirm which program applies.
- Hire a licensed contractor. For heat pump work this must be a Home Performance Contractor Network member.
- Keep your paid invoice. Most programs need it, and some need a heat load calculation and a commissioning sheet.
- Submit within six months of the invoice date, except FortisBC appliance maintenance which is 60 days.
- Have your Notice of Assessment ready if you are applying on income. Get it from CRA My Account or by calling 1-800-959-8281.
- We check which programs your home actually qualifies for before you spend anything.
- We install the qualifying equipment to the standard the program requires.
- We help with the paperwork, including the documents the utilities ask for.
